Canberra Labor’s redundant light rail: Cams record near misses with cars and pedestrians

One week from the beginning of Canberra’s light rail service — before taking passengers — more near misses have been recorded between cars and the trams.

In March, when Shorten promised a light-rail without any business case, ALP.news commented that:

Apart from the fact that Light rail runs on electricity & this genius is going to shut down half of the reliable power sources to achieve his ‘50% Renewables’ goal, Canberra doesn’t need light rail.

Light rail was a good option 100 years ago. Nowadays, the same throughput and efficiency can be achieved with diesel-electric buses. In future flexible transport will be semi-automated hybrid minibuses chained together for efficiency. Shorten is just wasting money.
