Union bosses are refusing to apologise to a university student who says a man wearing a CFMEU MUA shirt heckled her and called her a “bitch” from outside their State conference.
Notre Dame student Stephanie Brown, 25, was walking past Fremantle’s Esplanade Hotel on her way to the university on Tuesday when a man wearing a union shirt heckled her, asking: ‘How are you going love?’ Ms Brown said when she ignored the man, he responded: ‘Sorry I ruined your day, bitch’. She said the man was wearing a T-shirt that said CFMEU and MUA and was sitting at a table with four other union members.
MUA WA boss Chris Cain said he would not apologise to Ms Brown at this stage. Self-proclaimed feminist and ACTU boss Sally McManus, who was a star guest at the event, also declined to comment yesterday.
