Union bosses are refusing to apologise to a university student who says a man wearing a CFMEU MUA shirt heckled her and called her a “bitch” from outside their State conference.
Notre Dame student Stephanie Brown, 25, was walking past Fremantle’s Esplanade Hotel on her way to the university on Tuesday when a man wearing a union shirt heckled her, asking: ‘How are you going love?’ Ms Brown said when she ignored the man, he responded: ‘Sorry I ruined your day, bitch’. She said the man was wearing a T-shirt that said CFMEU and MUA and was sitting at a table with four other union members.
MUA WA boss Chris Cain said he would not apologise to Ms Brown at this stage. Self-proclaimed feminist and ACTU boss Sally McManus, who was a star guest at the event, also declined to comment yesterday.

“CFMEU officials and members have a long history of involvement in sexist incidents, including a female Fair Work Australian officials being called a ‘f***ing slut’ by union officials while doing her job, and Victorian deputy secretary Shaun Reardon being accused during the trade union royal commission of making intimidatory late-night phone calls to women working for Fair Work.
Reardon was consequently suspended as a White Ribbon ambassador against domestic violence in 2015.
CFMEU Officials in sexist attack
In October 2017, CFMEU national secretary Dave Noonan, Victorian secretary John Setka, Mr Reardon and organisers Joe Mcdonald and Cam McCullough were photographed surrounding a figure impersonating, Employment Minister Michaelia Cash and holding a sign reading: ‘A Big Cash Cow’.Fair Work Australia has adjudicated on cases involving a CFMEU official threatening to gang rape a woman after she had inspected their site, and another official spitting at a female workplace inspector.
On another visit, the same inspector was called a ‘f … ing slut’ and a ‘dog’ by union officials while she was doing her job.
