14,000 asylum seekers ‘ready to make boat journeys’ from Indonesia

Up to 14,000 asylum seekers in Indonesia could attempt unauthorised journeys to Australia after new laws were passed in parliament, federal government sources have claimed. The startling figure comes as Prime Minister Scott Morrison warned the passing of the┬ámedical refugee transfers bill today would weaken Australia’s borders. Since the Coalition came to power in 2013, Australia has helped Indonesian authorities intercept 53 attempts to smuggle people here.
